The month of Ramadan 2025 starts in couple of months and I wanted to take a look of the ways that we can all prepare ourselves for the amazing month of Ramadan.
Here is 7 ways to prepare for Ramadan 2025. I hope this post helps if you are a new revert to Islam.
1. Spiritual preparation
Start building a consistent prayer routine and strengthen your connection with Allah months before Ramadan. You can practice voluntary fasting during the months leading up to Ramadan, such as fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.
Don’t you just love when Ramadan is little bit more during the winter months? The fasting time reduces when the sun sets earlier. Here in Finland it makes so much difference if Ramadan is during the summer or winter. How many hours of fasting in a day do you have this year?
2. Mental preparation
Begin adjusting your mindset by setting clear intentions and goals for Ramadan. Practice mindfulness and develop patience (sabr) through daily reflection and dhikr.
Ask yourself these important questions when setting your Ramadan goals:
- What specific areas of your deen (faith) would you like to improve during this Ramadan? (For example: memorizing new surahs, improving prayer concentration, or learning more about Islamic history) Psst! You can save everything that you have learned about Islam to my Notion template made for revert Muslims. It is like a journal, a emotional support, a calendar and a database for different areas of life. You can see more info about it here.
- How can you increase your acts of kindness and charity during Ramadan? Consider both financial charity (sadaqah) and acts of service to others.
- Which habits would you like to change or develop during Ramadan that you can maintain throughout the year? Think about both spiritual habits and lifestyle changes.
3. Physical health optimization
Gradually adjust your eating and sleeping schedule to align with Ramadan timing. Start reducing caffeine intake and increasing water consumption months before Ramadan begins.
4. Knowledge enhancement
Dedicate time to learning more about Ramadan’s significance, proper fasting etiquette, and the spiritual benefits of this blessed month. Consider joining pre-Ramadan educational sessions at your local mosque.
5. Social and family planning
Communicate with family members about Ramadan schedules and responsibilities. Plan how to balance work, family, and worship during the holy month. I know, that having small kids makes fasting way more difficult. It’s important to talk about it before and not be so hard on each other aswell.
6. Home and environment preparation
Organize your living space to create a peaceful environment conducive to worship. Stock up on essential items and plan meals ahead to reduce stress during Ramadan.
It’s good to have a lists of healthy ingredients where you can have easily viewable inspiration for what to include in your menu. You can also collect a list of favorite recipes to cook during Ramadan.
7. Digital wellness
Plan to minimize digital distractions during Ramadan. Create a schedule that prioritizes worship and family time over social media and entertainment. Use my Notion template for saving ideas for things to do with family during Ramadan.
Remember: Starting these preparations early will help you make the most of the blessed month of Ramadan.
